Full-Time · Fully Remote

Senior AI Engineer

A senior-level role for someone who doesn’t just use AI — they architect it, deploy it, and make it work in the real world.

We’re looking for a Senior AI Engineer to lead the design and integration of AI-powered systems across our marketing technology stack. You’ll work directly with the founder, embedding intelligent automation, LLM-driven workflows, and AI tooling into client campaigns and agency operations. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role with real scope to shape how AI is applied in a fast-growing digital agency.

$90–$140 per hour (based on experience) · Full-time contractor arrangement · Remote-first

Key Responsibilities

You’ll own the design, development, and deployment of AI systems across a growing portfolio of marketing clients — from LLM integrations and prompt engineering to automated pipelines and AI-assisted content workflows.

AI System Design & Integration

Architect and deploy production-ready AI systems that solve real marketing challenges.

  • Design LLM-powered workflows using OpenAI, Anthropic, or equivalent APIs
  • Build and maintain AI pipelines for content, data, and campaign automation
  • Integrate AI tooling into CMS, CRM, and analytics platforms
  • Evaluate and recommend new models and frameworks as the landscape evolves
Prompt Engineering & Fine-Tuning

Turn raw model capability into reliable, brand-consistent output at scale.

  • Develop, test, and iterate prompt templates for client content use cases
  • Apply RAG, chain-of-thought, and structured output techniques
  • Fine-tune or adapt foundation models for specialist tasks where needed
  • Implement quality-control layers to ensure consistent AI output standards
Automation & Reporting

Reduce manual overhead and surface insight through intelligent automation.

  • Build AI-assisted reporting and insight extraction tools
  • Automate repetitive agency workflows using AI agents and orchestration tools
  • Monitor system performance and flag model drift or degradation
  • Document all systems clearly for team handover and client transparency

Skills & Attributes

We’re hiring for depth, not just familiarity. You should be able to point to AI systems you’ve built and shipped — not just experimented with in notebooks.

What We’re Looking For
Essential
  • 3+ years of hands-on AI/ML engineering with production deployments
  • Strong proficiency with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or equivalent)
  • Experience building RAG pipelines, AI agents, or multi-step LLM workflows
  • Solid Python skills with relevant ML/AI libraries (LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to ship AI systems end-to-end, not just prototype
  • Clear written communication and ability to explain AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Preferred (Not Mandatory)
  • Experience applying AI in a marketing, SEO, or content-driven environment
  • Familiarity with vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma)
  • Knowledge of fine-tuning workflows or RLHF techniques
  • Prior experience in an agency or fast-paced client services environment
  • Exposure to AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) or AI search strategies

What You’ll Bring

Beyond the technical depth, this is what separates a great AI engineer from someone who just runs prompts.

Builder’s instinct You don’t wait for a perfect spec. You identify the problem, prototype a solution, and iterate until it works in the real world.

Rigorous thinking You understand when a model is hallucinating, when an eval is misleading, and when the simplest solution is the right one.

Relentless curiosity You follow model releases, read papers, test new tooling — and you can separate genuine signal from AI hype.

Plain-language communication You can walk a client through what their AI system does and why — without resorting to jargon or hand-waving.

Reliability under ambiguity You’re comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where requirements evolve and solutions need to adapt.

Commercial awareness You understand that the goal isn’t clever AI — it’s AI that drives measurable outcomes for real clients and real businesses.

Work Structure & Compensation

Contract Arrangement

Full-time contractor role with agreed weekly hours. Flexible scheduling provided, with consistent availability expected across Australian business hours.

Compensation

$90–$140 per hour depending on experience and the depth of AI systems you’ve shipped, with clear performance-based progression paths.

Growth Potential

Opportunity to grow into a Head of AI role, shaping the agency’s entire AI practice as client demand for intelligent marketing systems continues to scale.

Location: Fully remote. Optional in-person collaboration available in Rowville, Melbourne for local candidates.

Application Process

Stage 1 — Written Application

Submit your resume, a brief cover note, and links to AI systems, tools, or projects that demonstrate what you’ve actually built and shipped.

Stage 2 — Technical Interview

A focused 45-minute video call to walk through your past AI projects, discuss architecture decisions, and assess your thinking on a real-world marketing AI challenge.

Stage 3 — Paid Build Task

A short paid exercise to evaluate how you scope, build, and document an AI solution — from brief through to a working implementation.

How to Apply

Send your resume and a short written response addressing the following questions:

01

Describe an AI system you’ve built end-to-end. What was the problem, what did you build, and what was the measurable outcome?

02

How do you evaluate whether an LLM-powered feature is ready for production? What does your quality-control process look like?

03

Where do you think most companies get AI implementation wrong — and what do you do differently?

04

What AI tools, models, or papers have you been most interested in lately, and why?
